17.08.07 - Phu Quoc is Vietnams largest island, located in the Gulf of Thailand just 15 km off the coast of Cambodia. It is a really beautiful island with increasing number of tourists visiting it, mostly flying in from Saigon three times per day.
As I landed on Phu Quoc I saw a herd of cows grazing just beside the runway. Being paranoid with flying I immediately thought:"What if they decide the grass was greener on the other side of the runway when the plane approaches?" But most probably by now they know the schedule of Vietnam Airlines by heart.
Out of pure curiosity (and to take the picture of the cows) I decided to have a closer look at the airport on arrival and saw that the runway is freely accessible at the east end. Even more stunned I was, when I saw the local kids using that well paved stretch for playing football and riding their bicycle. Please bear in mind, that Phu Quoc is in progress to become an international airport...

But one should not worry too much. Because near the terminal building the area is protected by a wall:
